Industrial Tech Contest
Schools in the Northeast Nebraska area are invited to participate in the Building Contest that takes place at the Norfolk Area Home and Garden Show to showcase your students skills and provide an opportunity for them to attend the Home and Garden Show.
The 2017 Norfolk Area Home Builders Association Home and Garden Show is always the third weekend in March and in 2017 it falls on St. Patrick’s Day weekend, so the show will have a “Green” Theme which we expect will focus on being environmentally friendly. For the Building Contest, we would like to see something along the lines of a “green” project, whether it is something that is upcycled, recycling, green energy, green building, or any other type of environmentally friendly building project and for any type of use. This is a very broad category and the sky is the limit.
You can use any materials or a mixture of materials, just be sure that your finished project is designed and built with user safety as a priority. Some other things to consider in choosing your project:
-Be sure the finished product is mobile for the convenience of the buyers- unless you are offering delivery, larger items can be more difficult for buyers
-Items may be displayed outdoors- make sure they can withstand the elements
-You are not limited in material or design scopes, except that we ask that you avoid storage sheds as the building construction students at Northeast build one to raffle at the show
-You are encouraged to seek donations of material or other supplies from your community
Prizes will be awarded to participants by a judging panel made up of members selected members of the home show committee. Prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st Place: $500
2nd Place: $250
All other participants: $100
A suggested donation amount or silent bidding instructions can be affixed to the project for sale at the show or schools can take the item back to their school to do with as they please. There will not be a live auction.
